Route Setting Clinic

We’re super stoked to announce our next route setting clinic on March 9th, led by Asylum founder Jordan Romig, LA-based route setter Zac Stamper 🐐 and special guest Felipe Ho. Felipe is the 16x winner of the Brazilian Climbing Championships and a professional route setter from São Paulo.

In this clinic, we'll delve into the nuances of competition setting versus commercial setting, highlighting the differences in demands and intensity. In competition setting, each climb serves as a challenge, testing climbers' skills with complex movements and precise coordination. We'll explore the RIC scale—Risk, Intensity, and Complexity—as a tool for grading competition climbs, allowing setters to map difficulty numerically and tailor climbs to challenge climbers effectively.

Participants will have the opportunity to set two boulders each for the red point round, followed by a finals round boulder to practice and refine their skills. Setting targeted grades and defining the questions climbers will face are key components, along with peer review and forerunning for feedback.

Clinic will be limited to 10 participants.

Cost: $200 | $120 for Asylum members and Alumni.

Safety equipment, tools, and lunch are included.
